Bange helps Missouri sweep SEMO in softball

COLUMBIA - Missouri swept Southeast Missouri on Tuesday by scores of 14-3 and 9-1 at the Mizzou Softball Stadium. 

Braxton Burnside hit a walk-off grand slam in the fifth inning of the first game, while Paige Bange (Helias High School) hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the second as Missouri mercy-ruled SEMO in both games.

In the first game, Kirsten Mack got Missouri a 2-1 lead after hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, and Rylee Pierce followed with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, Burnside's RBI single and Cayla Kessinger's RBI double were part of a six-run inning for Missouri.

Burnside finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI, while Pierce and Kessinger finished 2-for-3.

Danielle Baumgartner (5-5) got the win. She went four innings and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

In the second game, Mack opened the scoring with a two-RBI single, and Kolbe Romaine followed with an RBI double in the first. Bange hit a two-run double in the third to give Missouri a 5-1 lead. Mack and Romaine each hit run-scoring singles in the fourth before Bange's walk-off in the sixth.

Romaine went 4-for-4 with three RBI, while Regan Nash went 2-for-2, Kessinger went 2-for-3 and Mack went 2-for-4. Bange went 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Jolie Duffner (Blair Oaks High School) had a pinch-hit single.

Cheyenne Baxter (13-5) got the win after giving up a run on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings. Madi Norman (Tipton High School) went two innings and walked two and struck out a pair.

Missouri (26-18) hosts Nebraska-Omaha at 4 p.m. today.
