One quarter into Friday night's game between Jefferson City and Springfield Central, the Jays had five offensive plays in the books. And 41 points.

The Central Bulldogs turned the ball over three times in the opening quarter and seven times total, as the Jays rolled to an 83-6 win on Senior Night at Adkins Stadium.

It's the second most points scored in Jays history. The record was when Jefferson City beat Sedalia 87-0 in 1912.

Jefferson City scored the first 62 points of the game and led 69-6 by halftime.

The Jays compiled 264 yards on 15 plays in the first half, compared to 35 yards on 37 plays for the Bulldogs.

Three of the first five scores the Jays had were from either defense or special teams.

"When you get two defensive scores in the first quarter, that's outstanding," Jays coach Ted LePage said. " Our No. 1 defense is playing really well."

The No. 1 defensive unit sat by the middle of the second quarter and played one more series to start the second half, giving the bench players plenty of playing time.

"The nice thing is now they get to see themselves on film," LePage said. "They get to see the things they were doing and all that can do is add to our depth."

The lone score for the Bulldogs came on the second series against the Jays' defensive reserves.

Jordan Bruner sacked Central quarterback Danny Adams to start the drive, but an 11-yard run by Aries Criddle and a 20-yard gain by Adams got the ball to the Jays 18-yard line.

Corey Suttle then made a tackle for a five-yard loss before an Adams pass was deflected into the air and into the arms of Donte Reese for the 23-yard score. The 2-point conversion failed to keep the score at 62-6 with 2:17 left in the first half.

That drive started on the Jays 48-yard line because of a muffed punt recovered by Reese, the first of two turnovers for the Jays. The other was a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter.

Gunnar See totaled three touchdowns, one being a two-yard screen pass to receiver Adam Huff on the third play of the game. He also ran for a 14-yard score in the first quarter and found a wide open Alan Roettgen in the middle of the field for a 24-yard connection in the second quarter.

Huff also scored on a jet sweep from 57 yards out.

Elijah Jackson and Josephus Edwards each returned an interception for a score.

Dennis Barnes returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown. He also had an interception lead to See's 14-yard rushing touchdown.

Carson Ridgeway had two rushing scores, one from 11 yards out and another for 41 yards.

Damarion Nelson-Winston, Mitchell Huston and Kade Garnett each ran for a touchdown.

Garnett went untouched for his four-yard score for the only touchdown of the fourth quarter.

The 18 seniors for the Jays were honored before the game.

The Jays play their third straight home game next week when they host Hickman (0-2), which lost 40-6 to Webster Groves on Friday night.

The Jays have defeated the Kewpies four straight times.
