Robertson signs with Blue Jays, goes to Vancouver

Will Robertson's professional baseball career is about to begin.

Robertson, who was a fourth-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, signed with the organization this week and could make his professional debut this weekend.

Robertson, a Fatima High School graduate, is one of four outfielders listed on the roster for the Vancouver Canadians, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Blue Jays located in British Columbia.

Vancouver is one of eight teams in the Northwest League, which also consists of teams in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

While playing at Creighton this past season, Robertson batted .311 (69-for-222) with team-highs of 15 home runs and 67 RBI. He also collected 19 doubles and scored 53 runs in 54 games.

Vancouver is scheduled to open its season today against the Spokane (Wash.) Indians. First pitch is at 3:05 CDT.

In addition to Robertson, Jacob Voss is returning for his second season of minor league baseball.

Voss, a Linn High School graduate and former Creighton teammate of Robertson, is listed on the roster for the Orem (Utah) Owlz, a Rookie League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

Voss split last season with the Owlz and the AZL Angels, the franchise's other Rookie League team. In 2018, Voss posted a 3-1 record with two saves in 18 games pitched. He struck out 34 batters and walked 15 in 23 innings with a 5.40 ERA.

Orem, a member of the Pioneer League, opens its season today at home against the Rocky Mountain (Colo.) Vibes. First pitch is at 8:05 CDT.
