Cross Country: Jays 8th at Stampede

JOPLIN - The Jefferson City Jays placed eighth while the Lady Jays finished 30th out of 44 teams Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Pacing the Jays was Deaken Walker in 22nd in 16:05. Tommy Roehl and Dawson Schulte followed in 36th and 40th in 16:15 and 16:16, respectively.

Rounding out the team score were Blaine Smallwood in 85th with a time of 16:58 and Will Roehr in 134th in 17:22.

Fayetteville, Ark., won the team title with 57 points. Jefferson City totaled 315 points.

West Plains won the girls team title with 95 points. The Lady Jays had 789 points.

The top Lady Jays runner was Jackie Hensley with a 75th-place finish in 20:45. Michelle Grant finished 190th (22:40), Chasity Pendleton was 196th (22:43), Josie Starr placed 200th (22:51) and Maddie Showers ended up 203rd (22:52).

Jefferson City will compete next Saturday in the Warrenton Invitational.
