Post 5 Seniors open Ballwin Tournament with two wins

BALLWIN, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors began the Ballwin Battles Cancer Tournament with a pair of wins Friday.

Post 5 rallied from a 9-2 deficit against Eureka Post 177 to win 14-10 before dominating Lemay Post 162 18-4.

Drew Voss got the rally against Eureka started in the fifth inning with a two-run double to cut it to 9-4.

Gage Bax followed with an RBI double and later scored on Zach Woehr's sacrifice fly.

Dawson Schulte, who walked, made it 9-7 by stealing home.

Schulte made it a one-run game in the sixth with an RBI single and Dawson Koch gave Post 5 the lead for good with a bases-clearing triple to left field for an 11-9 advantage.

Post 5 added the fifth run of the inning when Jack Shinkle reached on an error, allowing Koch to score.

Trenton Morrow earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run in 2 innings of relief.

Koch, Zach Voss and Drew Voss each had three RBI.

Post 5 did most of its damage against Post 162 in the first and seventh innings.

In the first, Justin Wood tripled in a pair of runs and scored on a passed ball and Gage Bax later singled in two runs and scored when Drew Voss reached on an error.

Drew Voss made it 7-0 when he crossed the plate on Koch's sacrifice fly.

Post 5 led 10-3 before adding eight runs in the seventh.

Woehr made it 11-3 with an RBI double, Wood drove in two with a single, Shinkle and Josef Keilholz each tripled in a run, Gage Bax doubled in one, and Schulte and Woehr each added an RBI single in the inning.

Woehr collected five hits and four RBI, Bax finished with four hits and three RBI and Wood drove in four runs.

Zach Davidson pitched the first 2 innings, striking out three while allowing zero runs.

Zach Voss tossed the final 4 innings, allowing four runs with seven strikeouts.

The Post 5 Seniors (5-1) will take on Kirkwood Post 156 at 3 p.m. today in the tournament.
