Nine area teams in prep basketball rankings

The Jefferson City Lady Jays lead seven area girls teams receiving votes in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association state rankings released Wednesday.

Jefferson City holds down the No. 1 spot in Class 5 for the second consecutive poll.

The Helias Lady Crusaders team dropped one spot and is now No. 5 in Class 4. The School of the Osage Lady Indians are receiving votes in Class 4.

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons climbed into the Class 3 rankings at No. 7 after being among those receiving votes in the last poll.

The California Lady Pintos are new to the rankings as well, slotted at No. 9 in Class 3.

Two area teams - the Fatima Lady Comets and the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs - are receiving votes in Class 3.

The Tipton Lady Cardinals moved up one spot in Class 2 and are now ranked No. 2.

Joining Jefferson City at No. 1 in their respective classes are Incarnate Word in Class 4, Strafford in Class 3, Thayer in Class 2 and Walnut Grove in Class 1.

There are two area boys teams in the rankings.

The Blair Oaks Falcons remain at the No. 8 spot in Class 3, while the St. Elizabeth Hornets dropped two spots to No. 7 in Class 1.

No. 1 teams in boys classes are Webster Groves in Class 5, Sikeston in Class 4, Vashon in Class 3, Milan in Class 2 and Dora in Class 1.
