Jays close regular season with loss to Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays closed out the regular season Friday night with a 69-29 loss to the Rockhurst Hawklets.

Rockhurst, ranked No. 4 in Class 5, jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter, took a 37-13 advantage into halftime and ended the third quarter with a 61-27 lead.

Jefferson City (10-14) will head to Troy on Monday to begin the Class 5 District 8 Tournament. The fourth-seeded Jays and fifth-seeded Battle Spartans (16-7) will tip off at 7 p.m.

Top-seeded Timberland (11-13) awaits the winner for a 7 p.m. semifinal game Tuesday.

Troy-Buchanan (8-17), the No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Holt (10-15) at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the other semifinal game.

The championship game is set for 7 p.m. next Friday.
