District basketball tourneys to begin

The basketball postseason for area basketball teams tips off with district tournaments today.

The majority of the games scheduled today are girls contests, including the start of the Class 3 District 9 Tournament at Linn.

The eight-team event - with California, Blair Oaks, Fatima and South Callaway holding down the top four seeds - will begin at 4 p.m. Games will continue through the day, with the finale scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. tip.

The Eldon Lady Mustangs and Versailles Lady Tigers are scheduled to start Class 3 District 10 Tournament play today in Clinton.

A pair of Class 2 girls tournaments will begin today as well.

At Sturgeon, the District 7 Tournament features Russellville and New Bloomfield. The Tipton Lady Cardinals are the top-seed in the District 14 Tournament starting today at Stover.

In Class 1, the District 7 Tournament with the Tuscumbia Lady Lions and St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets will start today in Weaubleau. Jamestown and Chamois are slated to start play in the District 9 Tournament in Pilot Grove.

The boys tournaments in all of these districts are scheduled to begin Tuesday.

The lone boys tournament scheduled for today is Class 2 District 8 at Laquey where third-seeded Eugene will take on sixth-seeded Vienna in the final of four games at 8:30 p.m.

The girls portion of the District 8 Tournament was scheduled to be played Saturday, but was called off due to weather. It will now start Tuesday.
