Helias downs Harrisonville in soccer sectional

HARRISONVILLE - Nick Brandt had a part in four goals Tuesday night as the Helias Crusaders held off the Harrisonville Wildcats 4-3 in Class 3 boys soccer sectional action.

Brandt assisted on Helias' first three goals, all in the first half.

Sam Thompson got the the Crusaders on the board before Logan Wilson made it 2-0. Luke Hynes then increased the Helias advantage to 3-0 with a score with about nine minutes to play in the half.

Brandt then scored less than four minutes into the second half to give Helias a 4-0 lead.

Harrisonville got on the board about four minutes later, then scored with a little more than 23 minutes to play to cut the Helias lead to 4-2.

The Wildcats, who finished fourth in the Class 3 State Tournament last season, got their final goal with a little less than four minutes to play.

Helias (19-7) will travel to Van Horn (24-2) for the quarterfinals on Saturday. Van Horn, ranked No. 5 by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association, defeated Kearney 3-2 in its sectional Tuesday night.

According to the MSHSAA manual, Saturday's game is required to start anywhere from noon-6 p.m. The home team will make the final decision on the start time.
