WAYNESVILLE, Mo. - The Jefferson City boys and girls track and field teams each finished in second place Saturday at the Class 5 District 5 meet.
The Jays won seven events and posted 161 points, just four behind district champion Rock Bridge. Waynesville was a distant third with 117 points.
The Lady Jays came away with 156.5 points and five event wins. Ozark won the team district championship with 166 points, while Sedalia Smith-Cotton was well behind in third place with 103 points.
Jefferson City swept the boys and girls titles in both the shot put and the discus, with Devin Roberson claiming both titles for the Jays and Jessica Rhoads winning both events for the Lady Jays.
Tristan Huber posted a personal record to win the boys javelin for Jefferson City.
On the track, Cole Biesemeyer was a double-winner in both the boys 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Maleek Jackson took first in the 200-meter dash and the Jays also finished first in the 4x400-meter relay, which was run by Khalil Foster, Reggie Nketiah, Ryan Brooks and Andrew Dyer.
The Lady Jays came away with district titles in both the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays. Dijonay Dawson, Ezinne Opara and Caitlin Anderson ran both relays, while Ileah Chambly rounded out the 4x100 and Rhakala Blackmon was the fourth on the 4x200.
Laura Sherwood also won the 3,200 for the Jefferson City girls.
The top-four finishers in each event will compete in next Saturday's Class 5 Sectional 3 meet at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.
