Father Tolton holds on to beat Blair Oaks in district semifinals

WESTPHALIA - Neither team could get much of an edge in Thursday night's Class 3 District 9 Tournament semifinal game between Blair Oaks and Father Tolton.

The Falcons were down by a point after the first, second and third quarters, and that's where the final margin ended as the Falcons' last-second shot was off the mark to send the Trailblazers to the championship game with a 49-48 win.

With about six seconds left, Blair Oaks got a rebound off a Father Tolton miss at the free-throw line and called timeout after crossing half-court with :02.5 on the clock.

Blair Oaks then inbounded the ball and got a shot off, but it missed and the buzzer sounded as the teams battled for the rebound.

Father Tolton, the No. 4 seed, led 12-11 after the first quarter, 20-19 at halftime and 34-33 after three quarters.

Tim Fick led the top-seeded Falcons with 19 points and Eric Northweather scored 17.

Blair Oaks ends its season at 20-6.

Father Tolton (13-13) will face St. James, the No. 3 seed, at 1 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.

St. James defeated second-seeded Southern Boone 64-61 in the other semifinal.
