Prep Wrestling; Meeks, Batiste lead Blair Oaks at Union Tournament

UNION - The Blair Oaks Falcons finished 11th out of 16 teams at the Union Tournament, which was held Friday and Saturday.

Blair Oaks finished with 105 points in the team standings. Northwest: Cedar Hill won the team title with 321 points, followed by Logan-Rogersville in second with 261. Marshfield took third in the two-day event with 234 points and Ste. Genevieve was fourth with 226.

Caleb Meeks and Eli Batiste each took fourth place in their weight divisions to lead the Falcons.

Meeks posted a 4-2 record at 138 pounds, winning two of his matches by fall. Batiste went 3-2 at 145, advancing to the semifinals before dropping two of his next three matches.

Taking fifth place were Jayce Griggs at 120 and Dalton Bridges at 132.

Griggs won his first two matches by fall to reach the semifinals, dropped his next two and won by decision in the fifth-place match to go 3-2. Bridges also advanced to the semifinals, lost two straight and won by fall in the fifth-place match to finish with a 2-2 record.

Austin Baumhoer finished seventh at 126 with a 1-2 record, while Zach McCarty placed eighth at 106 with a 1-3 record. DeVonte Sanders went 1-3 at 195 to finish 10th and Nick Welch was also 1-3 at 152 to tie for 11th place. Caden Killday finished 0-3 at 145.

Blair Oaks wrestles next in The Battle at the Katy Trail, which takes place Friday and Saturday at the Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia.
