Helias softball falls to Sullivan in district title game

SULLIVAN - The Helias Lady Crusaders came close to erasing a three-run deficit with two innings to play, but the Sullivan Lady Eagles held on for a 3-2 win Friday night in the Class 3 District 9 Tournament championship at Bank of Sullivan Ball Park.

Helias, which was held to four hits, got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Taylor Woehr singled with two outs, then Rylee Kolb blasted a two-run home run to left field, cutting Sullivan's lead to one run.

Riley Heckenkamp had a one-out single in the seventh inning to put the tying run on base. Abigale Hoelscher, who entered the game as a courtesy runner for Heckenkamp, advanced to second base on a groundout, but the Lady Crusaders were unable to bring her home.

Lauren Howell pitched all six innings for Helias in the loss, finishing with seven strikeouts. She allowed three runs on six hits with one walk.

Helias finishes the season with a 21-6 record.
