Prep Basketball: Show-Me/Frisco League Challenge results

In the inaugural Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge, a total of 18 games were played Friday and Saturday at Waynesville High School. The Frisco League won the boys division 5-4 and the Show-Me Conference won the girls division 5-4.

Organizers have announced next year's Challenge will be hosted by Helias High School.

Boys Basketball

Plato 56, Linn 54

WAYNESVILLE - The Linn Wildcats held the lead for most of the game, but the Plato Eagles were able to pull away with a 56-54 win Friday in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Jacob Voss had a team-high 19 points for Linn and Alex Grellner finished with 10 points. The Wildcats shot 14 percent (4-of-29) from 3-point range.

Linn (1-1), which won 57-45 in its home opener Monday against Eldon, plays Dec. 1 at Southern Boone.

Eugene 80, Licking 49

WAYNESVILLE - The Eugene Eagles had five players score in double figures Saturday in an 80-49 win against the Licking Wildcats in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Eugene led 23-11 after one quarter, 40-22 at halftime and 68-43 through three quarters.

Austin Engelbrecht topped the Eagles with 17 points, while Austin Dickey finished with 14 points and Jacob Adrian added 11 points. Mason Kirkweg and Tre Kempker each scored 10.

Eugene (1-0) plays today at Versailles.

Crocker 73, St. Elizabeth 68

WAYNESVILLE - The Crocker Lions outscored the St. Elizabeth Hornets 22-12 in the final eight minutes of a 73-68 win Saturday in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Crocker held a 20-19 lead after one quarter, but St. Elizabeth tied the game at 35 at halftime. The Hornets were ahead 56-51 through three quarters.

Ross Struemph had a game-high 32 points for St. Elizabeth and Dakota Kemna added 11.

St. Elizabeth (0-1), ranked No. 10 in Class 1 in the MBCA preseason poll, plays today at eighth-ranked Jamestown.

Newburg 61, Fatima 56

WAYNESVILLE - The Fatima Comets struggled in the fourth quarter Saturday in their season-opening 61-56 loss to the Newburg Wolves in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Showdown.

Fatima led 17-13 after one quarter, 35-29 at halftime and 47-41 through three quarters, before Newburg outscored the Comets 19-9 in the final quarter.

Tim Brunnert had a team-high 16 points for the Comets. Brett Werner added 14 points and Sam Groner totaled 13.

Fatima (1-0) hosts Eldon today.

S. Callaway 76, Richland 53

WAYNESVILLE - The South Callaway Bulldogs scored 26 points in the second quarter to pull away to a 76-53 win Saturday against the Richland Rebels in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

South Callaway led 18-16 after one quarter and used its second-quarter spurt to extend its lead to 44-33 at halftime.

Landon Clark led the Bulldogs with 20 points, while Kaden Helsel and Treysen Gray had 17 and 15 points, respectively.

South Callaway (1-0) plays next Tuesday at Van-Far.

Stoutland 78, Russellville 60

WAYNESVILLE - The Russellville Indians held a seven-point lead after one quarter, but the Stoutland Tigers answerd in the next three quarters to win 78-60 on Saturday in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Russellville led 26-19 after one quarter and 44-40 at halftime. Stoutland won the scoring battle 17-6 in the third quarter to take a 57-50 lead heading into the fourth.

Beau Bryant led the Indians with 16 points, while Hayden Kueffer had 14. Brady Blanton also reached double figures with 12 points.

Russellville (0-1) plays Chamois next Tuesday in the first round of the Tipton Tournament.

Laquey 56, Tuscumbia 46

WAYNESVILLE - The Tuscumbia Lions dropped their season opener 56-46 on Friday to the Laquey Hornets in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Tuscumbia led 6-5 after the first eight minutes, but Laquey would lead 21-16 at halftime and 42-30 through three quarters.

Sam Huth had a game-high 22 points for the Lions.

Tuscumbia (0-1) hosts Bunceton today.

Girls Basketball

S. Callaway 70, Richland 35

WAYNESVILLE - The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs dominated the first quarter Saturday en route to a 70-35 win against the Richland Lady Rebels in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

South Callaway led 21-5 after one quarter, then added 19 points in the second and 20 more in the third to extend its lead to 60-25 entering the fourth quarter.

Five players scored in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, led by 21 points from Adrian Mann. Paige Clubb and DeLaney Horstman each scored 12 points, while Kaci Jordan and Ashley Potter each added 10 points.

South Callaway (1-0) plays next Tuesday at Van-Far.

Plato 55, New Bloomfield 33

WAYNESVILLE - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats dropped their season opener 55-33 against the Plato Lady Eagles on Saturday at the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Plato led 22-11 after one quarter, but New Bloomfield trimmed the deficit to 30-23 at halftime. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Wildcats 16-3 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 20 points at 46-26.

Samantha Hanes had 12 points for New Bloomfield.

New Bloomfield (0-1) plays today at Calvary Lutheran.

Eugene 59, Dixon 51

WAYNESVILLE - The Eugene Lady Eagles overcame a seven-point deficit after the first quarter Friday to beat the Dixon Lady Bulldogs 59-51 in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Eugene trailed 15-8 after one quarter, then took a 30-29 lead at halftime. The Lady Eagles extended their lead to 47-37 by the end of the third quarter.

Kaydi Alderman finished with a game-high 13 points to lead the Lady Eagles. Alexis Angerer and Jodi Polly each scored 10 points.

Eugene (2-0), which won 76-44 in its home opener Monday against Iberia, hosts Linn next Monday in the first round of the Eugene Tournament.

Linn 44, Crocker 24

WAYNESVILLE - The Linn Lady Wildcats held the Crocker Lady Lions to just seven points in the second half Friday for a 44-24 win in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

After trailed 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, Linn took a 21-17 lead into halftime and extended its advantage to 35-24 through three quarters. The Lady Wildcats held the Lady Lions scoreless in the final eight minutes.

Lauren Kawlen had a game-high 12 points to lead Linn. Lindsey Lebel finished with 10 points.

Linn (1-0) plays today at Bourbon.

Iberia 60, Tuscumbia 48

WAYNESVILLE - The Tuscumbia Lady Lions struggled in the third quarter of a 60-48 loss Friday to the Iberia Lady Rangers in the Frisco League/Show-Me Conference Challenge.

Tuscumbia trailed just 14-13 after one quarter and 36-34 at halftime. However, Iberia outscored the Lady Lions 13-2 in the third quarter to open a double-digit lead.

Madison Stark led the Lady Lions with 13 points and Mackenzie Humphreys finished with 11 points.

Tuscumbia (0-1) hosts Bunceton today.
