Lincoln men's, women's track advance at nationals

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Lincoln men's and women's track and field teams qualified for the finals in three more events Friday at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships.

The Lincoln men accounted for five of the 20 runners in the 200-meter dash preliminaries. Two finished in the top eight to reach the finals. Stephen Rose won his heat in 21.31 seconds to earn a spot in the finals, while Faedian Royes posted a time of 21.18 seconds in the fastest heat to take one of the last spots in the finals, which start at 5:55 p.m. today.

Miguel Barton (21.28 seconds), Jakiel David (21.29) and Roberto Smith (21.53) each came up short of advancing to the 200 finals for the Blue Tigers.

The Lincoln men earned a spot in today's finals of the 4x400-meter relay by finishing third in Friday's preliminaries. The team of Alva Henry, Royes, Darran Hunter and Barton clocked a time of 3:10.52.

The Lincoln women are also bound for the finals in the 4x400. Shanice Clarke, Renea Ambersley, Kimberley Bailey and Kissi-Ann Brown took fifth in Friday's preliminaries in 3:39.94. The women's final in the 4x400 is at 6:55 p.m. today, followed by the men at 7:05 p.m.

Bailey's season in the women's 200 ended Friday with a 12th-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 23.97 seconds.

After winning the men's long jump national championship Thursday, Sedeekie Edie placed 16th Friday in the triple jump with a distance of 49 feet, 1.5 inches.

Also competing for Lincoln today on the final day of the national championships are:

Diana Cauldwell in the women's triple jump at 2:45 p.m.

Smith, Rose, David and Barton in the men's 4x100-meter relay at 3:20 p.m.

Alex Templeton in the men's high jump at 3:30 p.m.

Brown in the women's 400-meter dash at 4:15 p.m.

Barton and Royes in the men's 400 at 4:25 p.m.

Rose in the men's 100-meter dash at 4:45 p.m.

Through eight of 21 events, the Lincoln men are tied for ninth place with 10 points. The Lincoln women have yet to score points but are competing in three events today.

Competing Friday in the women's discus, Central Missouri junior Amy Dorge (Blair Oaks High School) finished in 21st place with a throw of 139-9.

Missouri Southern junior Allie Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth High School) will compete in the women's triple jump at 2:45 p.m. today.
