With five of top seven finishers, Helias claims district golf crown

ELDON, Mo. - The Helias Crusaders finished with five individuals in the top seven finishers on their way to team honors Monday in the Class 3 District 5 Golf Tournament at Eldon Country Club.

Cole Higgins led the Crusaders by taking medalist honors with a 7-over 78. Jack Rundle tied for second with an 81, while Curtis Campbell carded an 82 to finish fourth. Dalton Roark was sixth with an 84, while Ethan Johnson tied for seventh with an 87.

Helias carded a 325 to beat runner-up Marshall by 47 strokes. Both teams have qualified for the sectional tournament, scheduled for next Monday at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

The Eldon Mustangs finished third as a team Monday with a 383.

Mustang teammates Spencer Rogers (tied for 10th, 91), Austyn Grisham (13th, 94), Christian Potucek (tied for 16th, 97) and Austin Kostelnik (tied for 22nd, 102) all advanced as individuals to the sectional.

The School of the Osage Indians were fourth as a team with a 392.

Advancing to the sectionals for the Indians are Jacob Krantz (10th, 91), Nick Riley (tied for 20th, 100), Collin Thomas (tied for 20th, 100) and Chance Foster (22nd, 101).

With four individuals advancing, both Eldon and School of the Osage will post teams scores at the sectional.

Brayden Watts of Southern Boone advanced to the sectional by finishing fifth Monday with an 83.

Teams advancing from District 6 are Logan-Rogersville and Monett.

The top two teams and other top finishing individuals at sectional will advance to the Class 3 State Tournament, scheduled for May 15-16 at Sedalia Country Club.
