Post 5 Seniors off to 3-1 start in tournament

BLUE SPRINGS - Jason Rackers pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters Friday, leading the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors to a 1-0 win against the Lee's Summit Outlaws to conclude pool play at the Fike Senior Wood Bat Tournament.

Lee's Summit and Jefferson City each finished 3-1 in Pool E to tie for the pool's top record.

Post 5 won the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh. Jonathon Backes drew and one-out walk and advanced into scoring position after Kade Franks was hit by a pitch.

Following a flyout for the second out of the inning, Hayden Hirschvogel singled to score Backes from second base to give Post 5 the win.

Paschal's single was one of three hits for Post 5. Backes singled to lead off the bottom of the second inning and Gaven Strobel hit a one-out double in the fourth.

Backes and Strobel were the only Post 5 players to reach base prior to the seventh inning.

The Post 5 Seniors (18-7) will play today in the quarterfinals of the bracket play portion of the tournament. They will face BOCO Baseball at 10 a.m.
