Girls Basketball: New Bloomfield wins district

STURGEON, Mo. - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats were able to keep close to the Eugene Lady Eagles all game Friday, making a push late in the fourth quarter to win 62-59 in the Class 2 District 8 Tournament championship game.

The game was tied at 10 after one quarter and Eugene led 24-23 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles held a 42-40 lead going into the fourth quarter, when the Lady Wildcats took the lead in the final four minutes to secure their first district championship since 2014.

Samantha Haas led New Bloomfield with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, adding six blocked shots. Madi Craighead scored 14 points and Baylee Garrett finished with 10 points.

For Eugene, which finished the season with a 17-11 record, Lexi Dickerson posted a game-high 33 points, scoring 23 in the second half. She also knocked down five 3-pointers for the Lady Eagles.

New Bloomfield (22-6), riding an eight-game win streak, will face either Westran (20-7) or Schuyler County (19-7) in the Class 2 sectionals at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at Mexico. Westran and Schuyler County are playing at 5 p.m. today for the District 7 championship in Salisbury.
