Jays track wins in Kentucky

PADUCAH, Ky. - After four individual wins and a relay victory, the Jefferson City boys track and field team captured the team title at the Midwest Team Challenge on Saturday.

The Lady Jays earned one individual win, two individual runner-up finishes and a second-place finish in a relay on their way to a second-place result in the team standings.

Jackson Schwartz and Thomas Nield finished 1-2 in the 1,600-meter run with times of 4:30.48 and 4:32.30, respectively.

Schwartz, Nield, Ben Krause and Brendan Bena made up the winning 4x800-meter relay team that recorded a time of 8:18.70.

The Jays also had second-place finishes in the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays. Carson Ridgeway, Khalil Foster, Reggie Nketiah and Maleek Jackson ran the 4x200 in 1:31.14. Nketiah, Bena, Addison Brown and Ridgeway had a time of 3:29.56 in the 4x400.

Cole Biesemeyer picked up a win in the 3,200-meter run in 10:14.91. Bena was second in the 800 (2:01.40), while Ridgeway was runner-up in the 200 (22.8).

The Jays also won two field events. Corey Suttle was first in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, three inches. He finished second in the discus at 140-6.

Devin Roberson won the discus with a toss of 171-4. Roberson was second in the shot put at 48-8.

Mason York placed second in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet. Brown cleared 6 feet in the high jump to take second place.

The girls also did well in field events. Carlee Brehe won the discus with a toss of 119-1. Jessica Rhoads was runner-up in the shot put at 38-7.

In the pole vault, Rachel Holt cleared 11 feet to place second.

The 4x200 relay team of Naomi Kerkula, Niya Slaughter, Tori LePage and Caitlin Anderson finished second in 1:45.05.

Jefferson City will host Hickman and Helias for a triangular on Friday.
