Entering the game, the Calvary Lutheran Lions had scored 14 runs this season.

It took them two innings to better that total Monday as the Lions defeated the Prairie Home Panthers 15-0 in five innings at Calvary Lutheran Field.

"It was good to come out and hit the ball," Calvary coach Rusty Bourg said. "We played good defense and we threw strikes.

"So when you do that, no matter who you're playing, you should be in position to win the game."

The Lions scored four times in the first inning on three hits, a walk and an error.

Calvary then sent 15 batters to the plate in the second, totaling 11 runs to blow the game open. The Lions had six hits to go along with six walks in the inning.

"We have lost a few recently, it was good to come out and score some runs," Bourg said. "Plus we had a chance to work on some things, like moving runners and putting the ball in play."

The Lions only struck out once in the game.

Colin Bernskoetter had three hits to pace Calvary, while Jordan Duenckel added a pair of doubles. Bernskoetter and Shay Crisp both scored three times while Duenckel and Carson Killday crossed the plate twice each.

Duenckel drove in three runs, while Bernskoetter and Ray Eickmeyer both had two RBI for the Lions.

On the mound, Calvary starter Alex Flannigan was making quick work of Prairie Home batters. The senior retired the side in order in the first, second and fourth innings.

Prairie Home got baserunners on a single and an error to start the third, but Flannigan sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a fielder's choice to get out of the inning.

"I didn't know what to expect the first couple of innings, but Alex made some good pitches and got some outs," Bourg said.

Drew Goodin pitched the top of the fifth for the Lions, allowing one Panther to reach on an error. He struck out the final two Prairie Home (1-4) batters to end the game.

"You hate to see the score end up like that, but it happens, it's happened to us before," Bourg said. "I'm sure Prairie Home is going to come back and win some games down the road."

Calvary (2-4) is back in action today at New Haven.
