Jays cross country finishes second at Hancock Invitational

Lady Jays take third

ST. LOUIS - The Jefferson City Jays were second while the Lady Jays were third Saturday in the Class 4 division at the Hancock Invitational.

The Jays finished with 82 points in the 16-team field. Festus was first with 52, while Lafayette was third with 84.

Jackson Schwartz paced the Jays by finishing third in 16:38.10. Cole Biesmeyer (17:20.20) and Brendan Bena (17:22.20) were 15th and 16th for Jefferson City, respectively, while Thomas Nield was 19th (17:24.20). Ben Krause was 29th (17:47.90), Izaak Sochinski was 47th (18:35.80) and Jeff Dodson was 55th (18:56.40) to round out Jefferson City's finishers.

Ryan Parson of Farmington took individual honors in 16:35.60.

On the girls side, the Lady Jays totaled 111 points. Parkway West was first with 36, while Kirkwood was second with 93 in the 10-team field.

Kayelee Payton was the top finisher for the Lady Jays, taking fifth in 20:48.20. Laura Sherwood was seventh for the LadyJays (21:05.20), while Katie Ruth was 29th (22:37.80) and Alivia Bopp was 32nd (22:48.30). Mira Gandhi was 43rd (23:39.20) and Hope Lewis was 66th (25:39.40) for Jefferson City.

Gemma Saathoff of Hickman was the individual winner in 19:56.00.

Jefferson City is back in action next Saturday at Camdenton.
