Cross Country: Helias at Hancock Invitational

ST. LOUIS - The Helias Lady Crusaders captured Class 3 team honors while the Crusaders were fourth Saturday at the Hancock Invitational.

The Lady Crusaders topped the 13-team field with 53 points. Festus was second with 75, while Herculaneum was third with 90.

Kayla Yanskey paced the Lady Crusaders, taking second in 20:33.00. Abby Hake was 11th (21:27.90), while Emma Veltrop (21:52.50) and Morgan Yanskey (21:53.80) were 16th and 17th, respectively. Lanie Hentges was 19th (21:57.90), while Ashley Eskens was 23rd (22:20.40) and Alicia Engelbrecht was 27th (22:29.20).

Samantha King of St. Francis Borgia was the individual champion in 20:15.30.

On the boys side, Helias was fourth with 104 points.

Ste. Genevieve, which had the top three individual finishers, was first with 53. Festus was second with 85, while Owensville was third with 101.

Jack Crull led Helias, taking seventh in 17:49.40, while Riley Scott was 16th (18:12.90) and Brian Kirchoff was 19th (18:18.20). Jenson Starr was 29th (18:43.80), Nathan Wieberg was 33rd (18:50.80), Jack Hentges was 40th (19:08.00) and Will Roehl was 56th (19:24.20) to round out Helias' finishers.

Schuyler Ogden of Ste. Genevieve was first in 16:44.70.

Helias will be back in action next Saturday in the Capital City Cross Country Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.
