Late runs have been easy to come by for the Jefferson City Lady Jays.

Mychael Jett hit a sac fly in the sixth inning to drive in the game-winning run in Saturday's 1-0 win against North Callaway in the Capital City Invite at 63 Diamonds.

Jefferson City scored three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh in its second game of the tournament against the Oakville Tigers, but lost 6-5.

Unfortunately in the Lady Jays' final game of the tournament, Rock Bridge returned the favor from earlier in the season by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to beat Jefferson City 9-3. The game ended after four innings because of the time limit.

On Aug. 24, Jefferson City beat the Bruins 6-2 in Columbia by scoring all six runs in the seventh inning.

Saturday's loss to the Bruins gave the Lady Jays a 1-2 record in the tournament.

Jefferson City trailed for much of the game against Oakville, as the Tigers led 4-1 after five innings.

But the Lady Jays took advantage of back-to-back singes by Lauren Neubauer and Alex Gilliland in the sixth.

Neubauer and Gilliland advanced to second and third on a passed ball with two outs and scored when the shortstop couldn't handle Hannah Clardy's grounder, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Jett followed up with a liner up the middle to tie the game at 4, forcing the game to extras since the game reached its time limit. Jett was the only Lady Jay to have multiple hits in the game, recording two singles.

Oakville wasted no time breaking the tie, as Maddie Michalski tripled to lead off the inning to drive in the placed runner at second.

A sacrifice fly brought Michalski home to make it 6-4.

After a single, Jett got out the the inning when Neubauer caught a liner at second base and doubled off the runner at first.

Jett allowed five earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out five.

Ashton Glass got Jefferson City within a run with a sac fly to center field. Neubauer then walked but a strikeout ended it.

Oakville pitcher Makayla Slavik struck out five, walked two and gave up six hits.

Jefferson City went down in order in the first two innings, but loaded the bases in the third.

A walk, a strikeout, an infield single for Abi Karr and Glass reaching on an error preceded a wild pitch to score Jett from third to tie it at 1.

With runners at second and third, a double play on a lineout to the shortstop ended the scoring threat.

"That was a bad turn of events," Lady Jays coach Zac Miller said. "Whenever you're hitting the ball square, it makes it tough for the baserunner."

The Lady Jays went down in order in the fourth and stranded Jett at second in the fifth.

Jett had a busy day in the circle, pitching all six innings against North Callaway. She allowed two hits and struck out eight in the shutout.

"She did really well," Miller said. "Real clean, got ahead in the count."

Against Rock Bridge, she threw all four innings, allowing nine hits with a strikeout.

Jefferson City (4-6) is back in action Tuesday, hosting Hickman at 63 Diamonds.
