ST. ELIZABETH - The third-seeded St. Elizabeth Hornets opened play in the Class 1 District 9 tournament Friday with a 12-6 win against sixth-seeded Prairie Home.

St. Elizabeth's pitching duo of Dakota Kemna and Aaron Blumberg combined to strike out 14 Prairie Home batters in the victory.

Preston Otto and Tanner Prenger drove in two runs each for the Hornets. Otto and Wyatt Stiles each had two hits.

St. Elizabeth (3-8) advances to face second-seeded Tuscumbia in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Top-seeded Jamestown will face fifth-seeded Bunceton in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. Fifth-seeded Bunceton defeated fourth-seeded Otterville 6-1 on Friday.
