Great 8 Classic: Northmont sprints past Tolton

The Father Tolton Trailblazers couldn't quite keep pace with the Northmont (Ohio) Thunderbolts on Wednesday night.

After the two teams played neck-and-neck for a quarter, Northmont scored the first 14 points of the second quarter and never looked back in a 70-42 win against Father Tolton.

Vinson Walker scored eight of his game-high 20 points during the Thunderbolts' run, including a breakaway dunk that extended the lead to 25-11 with 3:49 to play in the half.

Father Tolton finally snapped its scoring drought with a 3-pointer from Beau Washer at the 2:17 mark, but those would be the only points for the Trailblazers in the second quarter. Northmont outscored Father Tolton 18-3 in the second quarter to lead 31-14 at halftime.

The Trailblazers scored the first eight points of the second half, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Washer, to trim the deficit to 31-22. But the Thunderbolts answered with a 9-0 run to push their lead back to double digits.

Northmont then started the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run to lead 59-31 with 5:29 to play. The Thunderbolts led by as many as 31 points in the final minute of the game.

Washer led Father Tolton with 15 points, knocking down four 3-pointers. Isaiah Wilson also scored in double figures with 12 points.

Eleven different players scored for Northmont. DaLonte Capers led with nine points.

Northmont will face Western (Ky.) at 8:30 p.m. today in the semifinals. Father Tolton will play Jefferson City at 5:30 p.m. today in the consolation round.
