Jays, Falcons move up in football rankings

A pair of area teams have moved up one spot in the latest edition of the Missouri Media football rankings released this morning.

The Jefferson City Jays are now No. 3 in the Class 6 rankings after last Friday's 38-0 victory against the McCluer North Stars at Adkins Stadium.

The Blair Oaks Falcons jumped to No. 2 in Class 3. Blair Oaks, which received four first-place votes among the 14 voters in the rankings, defeated Kirksville 34-0 last Friday night at the Falcon Athletic Complex.

Two other area teams are receiving votes in Class 3.

The School of the Osage Indians, which defeated Fulton 28-21, fell out of the rankings, but received 18 points in the voting. Eldon, a 41-13 winner against Boonville to open the season, received eight points.

There are two new teams atop the poll in their respective classes.

Maryville received the other 10 first-place votes in Class 3 to take the top spot.

In Class 4, Kearney moved to No. 1 after Webb City's 23-7 loss to Carl Junction. Kearney and Carl Junction both received seven first-place votes, but Kearney held a 133-132 edge in points. Webb City is now No. 3 in the rankings.

The other No. 1 teams - C.B.C. in Class 6, Chaminade in Class 5, Lamar in Class 2 and Valle Catholic in Class 1 - maintained their positions.
