Sedalia rolls past Renegades 11-2

SEDALIA - The Jefferson City Renegades couldn't stop the top of the Sedalia Bombers' lineup and didn't get much off right-hander Justin Root in an 11-2 defeat in seven innings Saturday night.

The loss is the seventh straight for the Renegades, but they are still in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the MINK League South Division with the Nevada Griffons falling to the Joplin Outlaws twice Saturday.

Jefferson City is a half-game behind Nevada with the Renegades closing out the regular season tonight against Sedalia. Game time is 6 p.m. at Vivion Field.

Nevada, which does not play today, will end the regular season with a doubleheader Monday at Joplin.

The Bombers struck quickly against the Renegades with the first three batters reaching base, including Jake Lufft driving in the first run with a single.

It was part of a two-run first and Sedalia followed that with two more in the second and one run in the third.

Jared Baker got Jefferson City on the board in the third with an RBI single to score Dede Cole, who reached on an error and stole second base for his 22nd steal of the season.

The Renegades' other run came in the seventh when Gaven Strobel, who led off with a double, scored on a Paul Haupt groundout.

Strobel was one of four Renegades to get a hit off Root, who struck out five and walked none while allowing one earned run in seven innings to earn his third win.

Connor McKenna went 5 innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

The top four batters in Sedalia's lineup combined for nine of the team's 12 hits.

Lufft went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Alex Hoff went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
