Lincoln's Smith shares MIAA men's basketball player of the week award

Lincoln senior forward Terrance Smith and Northwest Missouri sophomore forward Ryan Hawkins were named the men's basketball co-Players of the Week by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, the league announced Monday.

This is the first time Smith has received the MIAA's weekly award.

In Saturday's 90-83 win against No. 20 Missouri Southern, Smith scored a season-high 35 points and added 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. By halftime, he already had 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Two nights earlier in a 96-85 victory against Pittsburg State, Smith finished with 16 points for the Blue Tigers.

In the two games, Smith combined to shoot 17-of-25 from the field, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range for the 6-foot-8 post player. He also made 11-of-13 shots from the free-throw line.

For the season, Smith leads Lincoln with 17.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He is also shooting a team-best 59.9 percent from the field, including 54.1 percent from 3-point range (20-of-37).

Lincoln (10-3, 3-1 MIAA) is riding a six-game win streak, its longest since 2000-01 season. The Blue Tigers play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lindenwood.
