Lincoln's Thompson receives honor from MIAA

Lincoln junior guard Zoi Thompson was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Thompson is the first Lincoln women's basketball player to receive the MIAA's weekly award since Vivian Essuon was named player of the week Jan. 9, 2012.

Thompson, a transfer from Columbus State, had a strong performance in the Blue Tigers' lone game last week against Stephens College.

In last Tuesday's 79-34 win against the Stars, Thompson scored a game-high 19 points. She also came close to finishing with a quadruple-double, added nine rebounds, nine steals and seven assists, all game highs.

Through three games, Thompson leads the Blue Tigers with 20.7 points per game. She also has team-highs of 10 steals, 16 assists and is fifth on the team with 15 rebounds.

Lincoln (3-0) hosts McKendree at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jason Gym.
