Renegades swing their way past Chillicothe, 8-6

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - The Jefferson City Renegades couldn't have asked for much more production out of the top of the order Friday night.

Logan Hudson, Jordan Smith and Cole Evans combined for eight of the Renegades' 13 hits in an 8-6 win against the Chillicothe Mudcats.

The Renegades broke a 1-all tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Cole Evans led off with a single, stole second and scored when Quincy Jones reached on an error. Jones later scored on Austin Blazevic's single, making it 3-1.

Jefferson City continued its string of seven unanswered runs in the eighth. Smith singled in Blazevic before an Evans single scored Hudson and Christian Rodriguez for a 7-1 lead.

But the Mudcats made a game of it in the bottom half, scoring five runs to pull within a run. Andrew Williams drove in the first of those runs with a bases-loaded single. Jack Cavanaugh then singled in a pair after Jeremy Hidalgo replaced Shane Fontenot on the mound. A Dalton Robison sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Nate Gawelko capped off the scoring for the inning.

Jefferson City added a run in the ninth on a Cole Evans single and Daniel Loyd earned the save with a strikeout and two flyouts.

Jefferson City got six solid innings from Michael McElmeel, who allowed a run on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Evans led the bats, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Hudson had three hits and a walk and Smith added two hits and two RBI.

The Renegades improve to 10-9 overall, 7-9 in the MINK League with the victory. They'll host the Sedalia Bombers, the leaders of the North Division, at 7 p.m. today at Vivion Field.
