College Wrestling: Strope leads Bearcats

ST. CHARLES - McKendree senior Ryan Strope posted a 4-2 record Saturday, taking fourth place in the 157-pound junior/senior division at the Lindenwood Open.

Strope (Fatima High School) won his first three matches (11-5, 7-2 and 9-6) in the 29-wrestler bracket to advance to the semifinals, where he lost a 3-2 decision to Missouri's Luke Fortuna.

In the wrestlebacks, Strope won a 13-5 major decision against Missouri Valley's Tobias Barnes to advance to the third-place match. Strope lost to Oklahoma's Justin Thomas 7-4, suffering both loss against NCAA Division I opponents.

Strope is ranked No. 3 at 157 in NCAA Division II by InterMat. He has an 8-3 record this season.

McKendree sophomore Frankie Falotico (Blair Oaks High School) finished 2-3 to take sixth place out of 18 wrestlers in the freshman/sophomore 141-pound division.

Falotico won his first two matches by fall after receiving a first-round bye to reach the semifinals. He then lost a 9-7 decision to fall into the wrestleback round.

Falotico has a 7-3 record this season.

Central Missouri junior Cole Kemna (Blair Oaks High School) finished 0-2 in the 174-pound junior/senior division.
