Horn leaves SFCC for job at UMKC

Eddie Horn is moving up the coaching ladder.

Horn, who retired in 2016 as the longtime soccer head coach at Jefferson City High School, has accepted a position at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as an assistant coach for the men's team.

"It was an opportunity I could not pass up," Horn said Friday.

Horn, who served as the men's and women's head coach at State Fair Community College in Sedalia this season, is excited to be moving to the NCAA Division I level.

"You never know if this is your only chance to get to the highest level of college soccer," Horn said. "I thought about it a long time and decided it was a chance I wanted to take.

"I was not looking to leave State Fair."

State Fair brought back men's soccer for the 2016 season as well as starting a women's program. The men's team finished 4-11-1 last season, while the women posted a record of 3-9-2.

Horn will be director of soccer operations at UMKC and will be in charge of recruiting in the United States.

UMKC is a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Roos finished 2-12-2 overall last fall, 1-7-2 in the WAC.

Other universities in the conference for soccer include Utah Valley, Seattle, Air Force, UNLV, Grand Canyon, Texas-Rio Grande, Cal State Bakersfield, San Jose State, Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist.

UMKC has been a member of the conference in soccer since 2013.

Rick Benben is the UMKC head coach, a position he has held for 19 seasons.
