LU women snap eight-game losing skid

The Lincoln Blue Tigers snapped an eight-game losing streak Saturday, overcoming a strong second half by the Northeastern State RiverHawks to win 66-62 at Jason Gym in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

Lincoln also snapped a 12-game conference losing streak with Saturday's win.

The Blue Tigers had a 15-12 lead after a back-and-forth first quarter. Azaria Nave hit a 3-pointer late in the quarter to give Lincoln the lead.

Asia McCaskill knocked down a 3-pointer to give Lincoln a 29-21 lead in the second quarter, its largest lead of the game. The Blue Tigers never trailed in the quarter and led 34-27 at halftime.

Northeastern State responded in the second half, scoring 25 points in the third quarter. Lincoln trailed 52-49 as the fourth quarter began, but the Blue Tigers took the lead for good in the fourth quarter when Khadijah Ellison hit a 3 midway through the low-scoring quarter to break the tie at 60.

Lincoln held Northeastern State to just one field goal in the final five minutes. The RiverHawks shot 50 percent from the field in the second half, but they missed their final five shots of the game.

The Blue Tigers had four players score in double figures, led by Hunter Yoakum with 13 points. She also dished out seven assists.

Ellison and Nave each had 11 points and Citlali Lopez finished with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Rylie Torrey led Northeastern State (6-8, 2-4 MIAA) with a game-high 26 points.

Lincoln (2-11, 1-5 MIAA) will play Thursday at Pittsburg State.
