CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State senior Corey Beard pitched seven strong innings Sunday, leading the Statesmen to a 13th straight win with a 9-1 victory against Valdosta State.
Beard (Jefferson City High School) allowed just one unearned run and three hits. He finished with two walks and matched his season high of eight strikeouts.
In 12 starts this season, Beard is 6-0 with a 4.31 ERA. He has struck out 62 and walked 19 in 71 innings pitched. The Statesmen have won in 11 of his 12 starts.
Delta State (35-9), ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, finishes its series today against Valdosta State. The Statesmen snapped their win streak in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with an 11-8 loss.
