Incumbent Kris Scheperle won the Republican primary for Cole County Western District commissioner by defeating challenger Janet Ousley, 64.9 percent to 35 percent, respectively.
"I'm relieved," Scheperle said. "It's been a long couple of months. Janet was a great competitor, and I applaud her for her efforts. I'm ready to move the county forward."
The unofficial results show of the 15 precincts in the Western District, there were 5,087 votes cast for Scheperle and 2,745 cast for Ousley.
"It was a great experience," said Ousley, a sales representative for the News Tribune. "I thank all those who voted for me, and I wish Kris good luck."
"I don't think there was any one issue that was the deciding factor in this race," Scheperle said. "If there was one thing, I think it was just that I had more experience in the job."
Although there is still a general election in November, no other candidate from an opposing party filed to run, so Scheperle is unopposed in that race.
"My goals have stayed the same since I first started on the commission, and that's been to try to take care of our employees, take care of our facilities, improve roads and public safety," Scheperle said.
