Your Opinion: Welcoming our new citizens

Dear Editor:

I am writing this letter having just returned from "Naturalization Ceremony 2018."

I am thankful that the ceremony has been moved to the Miller Center. The previous federal courthouse location had been too small to accommodate all who wished to attend.

The ceremony was well run, and made good use of time.

Becoming a citizen of the United States of America is a time-consuming and intensive process. The applicant must "renounce all allegiance to any foreign state."

Pastor Noah Angel outlined his pathway. Angel is the native of El Salvador.

Some people like to put the United States down. They like to dwell upon our imperfections. Many others admire our Constitution and our system of government.

It will be nice when we learn how to extend our system of government to more people. There are many pathways.

We can figure out how to extend citizenship eligibility to more immigrants. We can invite other nation-states to peacefully annex into our county.

Congratulations to our new citizens! Welcome to the United States of America.
