It's a shame that all the news media makes their headlines about gun control. The real news of mental illness has not been mentioned even once. The gun is simply a tool, like a knife, hammer, car.
I don't believe all teachers should be armed. I believe schools should be prepared for these disasters as they are for other types of danger. They could assess the abilities of the teachers to handle this type of assault. Develop reactionary teams per floor to engage and either eliminate the threat or slow them down so they abandon their goal to do as much damage in the shortest time. The second floor reaction teams would set up a blocking force at the stairway entries to upper floors.
All teams should go through either police or military training. All teams should also have direct communication to other teams and police forces. It is very important to be able to communicate each other's location and situation.
