Your Opinion: Luetkemeyer criticism appreciated

Dear Editor:

I read with interest the opinion letter of Scott Randolph (Jan. 7, 2018) regarding the comments of Blaine Luetkemeyer, our U.S. representative from the Mid-Missouri area. I read this article as well and was disappointed in what he enumerated as his long list of accomplishments and those of President Trump during the past session. As an independent thinker and voter, I have taken issue with many of the actions of this Congress and certainly this president. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has an article each week which indicates all legislation passed by Congress in the previous week and how each Missouri senator and representative voted.

Throughout the year, both the Republicans and Democrats voted the party line on about 95 percent of the issues. So much for bi-partisan support for anything other than trivial issues of little substance. I am sure Randolph's list was not all-encompassing and did not include all of the Republican agenda which as passed in 2017. Nor did it include all of the executive actions taken by the president, which Luetkemeyer supported. The latest figures I read indicated Luetkemeyer had $2.4 million in his war chest for his re-election bid in November. So, it appears big business, commercial interests and banking (primary funding sources for Luetkemeyer) will once again elect the candidate of their choice.

So far, I have not heard if there is even a candidate from the Democratic side, let alone if there is any funding for said candidate which can even come close to that of Luetkemeyer's. Randolph's article was certainly appreciated. Thank you.
