Good news, courtesy of President Trump

Dear Editor:

This letter is a follow-up to my letter “Most California immigrants on welfare” published 12/9/2018 as some bad news for a NT headline. I would now like to propose a couple of good news headlines for the NT to publish.

“Factory Job Openings Hit Record High” by John Carney 12/10/2018. (breitbart.com/economy/2018/12/10/factory-job-openings-hit-new-record-high/).

Quotes from the article: “The job opening rate for durable goods manufacturing hit 4 percent, the highest ever recorded in data going back to 2000, according to a report issued Monday by the Department of Labor. That’s an increase from 3.7 percent a month earlier.”

“The figures suggest that tariffs are not hurting U.S. manufacturers.”

“Durable goods manufacturing was one area that was thought to be particularly exposed both to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum and retaliatory tariffs from China and others. But the Labor Department said there were 332,000 job openings in the sector in October. In addition, there were 227,000 durable goods hires.”

Another good news for you to headline: ‘3.5 Million People Drop Off Food Stamps Under Trump’ by Katherine Rodriquez 12/10/2018. (breitbart.com/politics/2018/12/10/3-5-million-people-drop-off-food-stamps-under-trump/).

Quotes from the article: “More than 3.5 million people have dropped off food stamps since President Donald Trump’s first full month in office, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).”

“The most recent USDA data reveals that 38,577,141 Americans received benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — otherwise known as the federal government program responsible for giving out food stamps — in September 2018.”

“When Trump took office in February 2017, 42,134,301 Americans had been receiving SNAP benefits, according to the data.”

“The most up-to-date numbers also show enrollment in food stamps has declined for 11 straight months.”

Isn’t it time the media and the spineless politicians start to be honest and supportive of this president in his unwavering efforts to help our nation to be strong and free like our Founding Fathers intended and created?

May God bless and protect Donald Trump from those whose greed and thirst for power and who care nothing about truth, fairness and the rule of law which is destroying our precious Republic.

Replace Ceres with Carver

Richard A. Howerton

Dear Editor:

We seen two comments in the newspaper concerning the statue of Ceres that was recently removed from the Capitol dome.

In the event that there is consideration for a replacement for the statue of Ceres, please consider this:

Thousands of students come from every school district in the state to visit the Capitol building each year. They look up from their bus to get their first look at the Capitol, and with their first sighting they see on the top of the Capitol dome a statue. Now, the question is what statue could make an impression on these students?

Should they see a statue of a mythical Greek goddess? Or, should they see a statue of a real person from Missouri history?

There is a man in Missouri history who should be considered. This man began life as a slave on a cotton farm in western Missouri. He, along with his mother and sister were stolen by bushwhackers (horse thieves) who rode away with them. Then, because he was so sick that he was thought to be dead, he was thrown away to the side of the road. When he was found, he was lying in the dirt by the side of the road. And, from that most meager of beginnings, he became the most important and most decorated man ever to be born in the state of Missouri.

He was honored with too many decorations to innumerate here, but just as an example, there is a nuclear missile submarine named “USS George Washington Carver.”
