Your Opinion: Calling on Boy Scouts to dissolve organization

Dear Editor:

I read the News Tribune article regarding the Boy Scouts of America with a mixture of dismay and disbelief. About all I have left of my father is his Boy Scout memorabilia. He earned Explorer Scout, Aviator Scout, God and Country Scout and Eagle Scout. He was also in Order of the Arrow. He took Scouting very seriously.

The first word in the name of the organization is boy. How tough is this, folks? It's a boys' organization. There are male scout leaders and female den mothers. This isn't complicated. Girls have an organization called Girl Scouts. The first word is girl. Anyone catching on yet? I'm sure angry mothers against male organizations (AMAMO) want their daughters to be able to earn the Eagle Scout award. The Girl Scouts can just as easily offer the Eagle Scout award. Making BSA coed is an impotent effort to disparage boys.

It's perverse to turn BSA into a battle ground over sexual preference and gender identity. If the terms boy or girl really apply, we are dealing with children that are too young to comprehend, with any depth, what those adult terms mean and how they will effect their lives. The sad fact is, children are caught in the middle of this complex web of emotional pathology adults have so cleverly created. It's called child abuse, and child abusers turn my stomach.

I have called upon the Boy Scouts of America to dissolve their organization. They aren't going to listen, but I have a moral obligation to make the request. The dignity and respect BSA once commanded is gone. By their unconscionable lack of decency, the reputation of BSA has been irrevocably tarnished. My father is rolling in his grave.
