Callaway County hears multiple circuit court cases

The following cases were heard Jan. 9, in the Callaway County Circuit Court:

Alexander Campbell, 24, of Warrensburg, pleaded guilty to felony stealing and was sentenced to three years in prison. Campbell admitted stealing wagon wheels from a homeowner last February. The offense was enhanced to a felony based on his prior convictions for stealing in 2012 and 2015 in Callaway County. Campbell also pleaded guilty in a separate case to two counts of burglary in the second degree and one count of receiving stolen property. In that case, Campbell admitted to burglarizing two buildings on County Road 480 last December. He also admitted he retained possession of numerous tools stolen during one of the burglaries. The judge sentenced Campbell to four years in prison on each of count in that case. He was also sentenced to three years in prison for a 2014 burglary. Campbell had been on probation for that offense, admitted violating probation by committing the new offenses, and the judge revoked probation. All of the cases were investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Tyler Cockrum, 25, of Springfield, pleaded guilty to committing violence against an employee of the Department of Corrections and was sentenced to nine years in prison. Cockrum admitted he punched a corrections officer at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center last April while Cockrum was an inmate. The victim suffered minor injuries. The case was investigated by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Justin Martin, 18, of Columbia, pleaded guilty to felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor resisting arrest. Martin admitted last June he retained possession of vehicle batteries knowing that they had been stolen. He also admitted he fled from officers when they attempted to arrest him for the charge in September. The judge placed Martin on five years of supervised probation for the stolen property offense and sentenced him to 60 days in jail for resisting arrest. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Jeremy Miller, 36, of Williamsburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic assault and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Miller admitted physically assaulting the female victim while the two were in a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road at the intersection of State Road CC and County Road 428 last January. A passing motorist witnessed and reported the incident. Another motorist transported the victim to Fulton for medical treatment. The victim suffered bruises and cuts to her face as a result of the attack. Miller was charged as a prior and persistent felony offender, thus enhancing the range of punishment. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

James Shinneman, 35, of Bonnots Mill, pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to three years in prison. Shinneman admitted he failed to notify the Callaway County Sheriff's Office of a change of residence within three days of moving last April. The judge suspended execution of the prison sentence and placed Shinneman on five years of supervised probation. Shinneman is required to register as a sex offender based on his 2009 conviction for second-degree statutory rape. The case was investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy Stewart Jr., 21, of Fulton, was sentenced to prison for three years on charges of second-degree assault and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and four years for stealing. Stewart had been on probation for the offenses, admitted violating probation, and the judge revoked it. The cases were originally investigated by the Fulton Police Department and Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Shane Vandelicht, 25, of Fulton, was sentenced to prison for seven years on charges of stealing (five counts), stealing a motor vehicle and tampering with a motor vehicle. Vandelicht had been on probation for the offenses, admitted violating probation, and the judge revoked it. The case was originally investigated by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Joshua Lee Williams, 40, of Salem, pleaded guilty to concealing a prohibited article on the premises of a correctional facility and was sentenced to five years in prison. Williams admitted he possessed marijuana in his cell while an inmate at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center in March 2015. The case was investigated by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
