Brumley man sentenced to 10 years in prison after probation violation and plea hearings

Brandon Truster of Brumley was sentenced to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections Oct. 6 after probation violation and plea hearings.

According to Miller County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Winfrey, Truster allegedly admitted to striking a woman and causing her injuries and holding her against her will, which exposed her to danger. Truster was specifically sentenced to seven years in prison for a class C felony of second degree domestic assault and seven years in prison for a class C felony of felonious restraint, Winfrey said.

Truster was also on probation in another case for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the sentences were suspended, Winfrey said. The court ruled that his domestic violence offenses violated his probation and his previous sentence was executed.

All of Truster's sentences were ordered served concurrently.

"Mr. Truster was granted an opportunity to live in the community but abused the opportunity," Winfrey said. "We hope this sends a message to everyone that my office takes probation seriously, and we will not allow drug dealers or domestic violence offenders to go unpunished whenever possible."

Winfrey and the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's Office thank the Miller County Sheriff Department for their efforts in resolving this case.
