Author to offer productivity advice at Tuscumbia event

Community members who want to learn how to be more productive are invited to a free event featuring Missouri author Jeff Sanders at 6 p.m. Monday in the Tuscumbia High School cafeteria.

Hailing from Columbia, Sanders is the author of the No. 1 Amazon best-selling book on productivity, "The 5 AM Miracle: Dominate Your Day Before Breakfast."

As Sanders said on his website, "I focus my content on healthy habits, personal development and rockin' productivity. I believe these are the core elements of developing a phenomenal, energy-packed life - one that causes you to literally bounce out of bed with enthusiasm, form lifelong healthy habits and become the highest and best version of yourself."

Sanders is also a keynote speaker, productivity coach, creator of the "47 Strategies Productivity Self-Assessment" and host of "The 5 AM Miracle Podcast." He has had more than 3 million downloads and is ranked No. 1 on iTunes in multiple categories, including self help and business.

Tuscumbia School Principal Randy Gum said one of the district's teachers recommended Sanders to speak to Tuscumbia students about writing, editing and revising, as well as introduce the community and staff to his motivational productivity resources and tools.

Sanders will speak to middle school and high school students in the afternoon about the writing process, then he will talk to the community Monday evening.

"In his book, he talks about a seven-step productivity system. He will address that system he references in his book during the community event," Gum said. "It is all about ways to make your life more efficient."

Gum said the school tries to invite authors to speak to students at least once a year. The week of Veterans Day, author Michele Spry talked to students about her book on Honor Flight. In addition, a local man who participated in an Honor Flight visited with students.

"Each (author) has their own spin on it. They are all quirky and have their own tricks to get the kids interested, keep them engaged and get them willing to say, 'Maybe my first draft isn't the best, and what can I do to improve it?'" Gum said. "About 70 percent of school work is being able to write and analyze what you are writing. If you can handle that, everything else falls into place."

With Sanders volunteering his services, Gum is encouraged the free evening event will see good attendance. He hopes anyone interested in learning how to be more productive will come hear Sanders' presentation.
