Helias finishes baseball doubleheader 1-1

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Helias Crusaders split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, beating Kirksville before falling to Quincy (Ill.) Notre Dame.

Helias won the opener 14-3.

Wyatt Porter picked up the win, tossing four innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Andy Devine pitched two innings of scoreless ball in relief, allowing one hit while striking out a pair.

Garrett Buschjost went 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Clayton Winter had two RBI.

Helias then dropped the nightcap 9-7.

Devine took the loss, tossing three innings of relief while allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two strikeouts. Austin Sachse pitched the first four innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Sachse also collected a hit and an RBI.

Brock Gerstner went 1-for-4 with two RBI, tying the game at 7 in the bottom of the sixth.

Helias (1-3) travels Monday to Boonville.
