KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City man has been charged with an armed robbery involving merchandise advertised on Craigslist, and police believe the case is linked to a similar robbery in which a Liberty couple were shot in front of their teenage son.
Jackson County prosecutors on Friday charged Debvon L. Buckner, 24, with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action in connection with a robbery Wednesday in which a man trying to sell an Xbox game system on Craigslist was robbed at gunpoint after going to meet a potential buyer.
Electronic court documents do not indicate whether Buckner has obtained an attorney.
Buckner was one of four men taken into custody by Kansas City police Thursday night in connection with the two crimes, both of which involved victims who were robbed at gunpoint while trying to buy or sell merchandise on Craigslist, The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/1kGfLUT) reported.
Prosecutors allege Buckner was one of three people who robbed a man who was trying to sell the Xbox. Court documents filed Friday indicate the victim identified Buckner as one of the robbers.
The phone call that set up that robbery came from the same number used to set up another meeting later that night with the Liberty couple and their son, who were interested in a 2007 Hyundai Sonata advertised on Craigslist, court documents show.
After the victims took the car for a test drive, the seller said he had to call his wife and walked away. Two other men approached the couple, pulled out handguns and demanded the Liberty couple's money.
When the robbers pointed a gun at the woman, her husband stepped in front of her and was shot three times. One of the robbers grabbed the woman's purse and shot the husband one more time before fleeing in the Hyundai.
The woman was shot once, shattering her right upper arm. She and her husband are expected to recover. The couple's son was not hurt.
