JCHS crowns Winter Sports court

Roy Franco stirs a giant pot filled with 100 gallons of spaghetti sauce Wednesday at the St. Joseph Parish Hall in Tontitown. The sauce will be used for the 111th Tontitown Grape Festival's spaghetti suppers. A crew of volunteers will work to make 500 gallons of the sauce to ensure a steady supply.

Jefferson City High School celebrated Winter Sports with an assembly and basketball game Friday and a dance Saturday. A queen and her court were also crowned.

Madison Deatherage, daughter of Bryan and Lea-Ann Deatherage, was crowned queen. She is captain of track team, on Athletic Leadership Council, attended MSHSAA Leadership, is in Key Club, on the honor roll, and plays softball and volleyball. She was student of the month and attends First United Methodist Church.

Her assembly escorts were Mason Deatherage and Kael Upschulte; game escort was Landon Slater; dance escort was Nate Luebbert.

The Winter Sports court included:

• Dallas Wilson, daughter of Tod and Stefanie Wilson. She plays soccer, is in National Honor Society, on the honor roll, in Young Life and plays Lady Nutella Basketball. She attends Community Christian Church.

Her assembly escorts were Nate Luebbert and Alec Bise; game escort was Alec Bise; dance escort was Cody Hager.

• Emily Deeken, daughter of Jack and Mary Deeken. She runs cross country, is on track and field team, is in orchestra, plays Goodwill Hunters Basketball and Defenestrators dodge ball, is on honor roll and was student of the month. She was named All-District cross country, All-Sectionals cross country and is cross country captain.

Her assembly escorts were Lucas Theroff and Sam Willoh; game and dance escort was Jack Gamble.

• Dakota Newton, daughter of Aaron and Lori Newton. She plays softball, is on Athletic Leadership Council, attended 2013 MSHSAA Leadership Conference, was All-District in softball, Academic All-State, was student of the month, received the American Legion award and House of Representatives Glory of Missouri award. She attends Concord Baptist Church.

Her assembly escorts were Jake White and Darion Jones; game escort was Hayden Strobel; dance escort was Wyatt Porter.

• Courtney Kolb, daughter of Jerry and Tammy Kolb. She plays soccer, is vice president of Chorale, is on Athletic Leadership Council, in National Honor Society and in operetta. She was All District in soccer, 2013 District Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region in soccer, Central Region Defensive Player of the Year and All-State soccer. She attends Immaculate Conception Parish.

Her assembly escorts were Cole Lympus and Hayden Miller; game and dance escort was Erich Sporleder.
