Blue Tigers split with Central Methodist

FAYETTE - The Lincoln Blue Tigers split their non-conference doubleheader against Central Methodist on Tuesday.

Lincoln claimed a 5-2 win in Game 1, but the Eagles responded by rolling to an 8-0 victory in six innings in Game 2.

Jessica Cook earned the complete-game victory for the Blue Tigers in the opener, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking five and striking out six in seven innings.

Amanda Coffelt hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to give Lincoln a 5-0 lead and the Blue Tigers didn't look back from there.

Sam Kircher was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Shantae Duren, Kelsey Hight, Allyson Corry, Kassidey Borland and Cook all added hits for Lincoln in Game 1.

The outcome was a little different in the nightcap, where the Blue Tigers were outhit 10-4.

Corry was 2-for-2, while Jessica Wolken and Borland each added hits.

Alyssa Laudwig received the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in 2/3's of an inning.

Cook surrendered five runs on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Lincoln is now 5-36 on the season, while Central Methodist moved to 32-6.

The Blue Tigers will host Washburn in a Mid-America Intercollegiate doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m. Friday.
