A Mitchell, S.D., native hopes to fill a niche through his recently opened Xtreme Trendz store in the strip mall in front of the Stadium Boulevard Walmart in Jefferson City.
Owner Bob Wieger's shop is one of 51 businesses granted city business licenses in July.
He said the store, located at 744 W. Stadium Blvd. Unit H, specializes in shoes and clothing geared toward active young adults and upper-age teens.
He sells more than 20 different brands, including Hurley, Quicksilver, osiris, DC Shoes and Etnies. He said he has around 3,000 pairs of shoes in the store, and that his store is the only store in town to sell many of the brands he carries.
He also sells golf discs.
The store is open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays. He said he hopes to open the store on Sundays soon.
Xtreme Trendz started with 2,200 square feet of space, and has doubled since he opened it in mid-July.
"The men's shoe wall is 50 feet long and 8 feet high," he said.
Wieger said he decided to move to Jefferson City after doing market research and determining that Jefferson City was one of the larger communities that didn't have an outlet for these types of clothes and shoes.
