Jefferson City's Super 8 Motel became Oak Tree Inn on Thursday, and is about to embark on a $780,000 renovation.

Chris Goodman, regional manager for the motel chain, said the Wichita, Kan.-based hotels contract with Union Pacific for its traveling employees.

"We're just glad to be in Jefferson City," he said. "I look forward to getting to know the business community, attend chamber meetings and be involved with local charities."

Renovations, he said, will include all new mattresses, flat-screen TVs and carpets, as well a new fitness center.

Other changes will be done in conjunction with its UP contract. Since the railroad workers sometimes sleep in the daytime, the motel's 77 rooms will be made quieter and light-proof. Shuttle service will be available 24 hours a day, as will housekeeping.

Goodman said he plans to add another 10 employees in those two areas, as well as for front desk clerks. People interested in those positions can apply at the motel, he said.

Robin Hilke will remain the local manager.

Although UP employees make up a segment of the motel's clientele, it also welcomes the general public. Room rates will stay the same, he said, and the motel plans to offer specials in conjunction with the opening.
