Sam's Club gets OK on permit, plat

A new Sam's Club in Jefferson City is closer to reality after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special exception permit, revised preliminary plat and final plat for the development.

At the commission meeting Thursday, representatives of the development presented plans for construction, requesting a special exception permit because the store, and an accompanying gas station, will be on more than 100,000 square feet of property.

The Sam's Club will be the newest addition to the Stoneridge Plaza and will include the big box store as well as a gas station on 136,454 square feet of property.

The store will be located on the east side of a future extension of Stoneridge Parkway, which will be extended to the south and Hard Rock Drive will be extended from the Menards site to the west. A five-foot sidewalk will be constructed along both sides of Hard Rock Drive and on the east side of Stoneridge Parkway, and a 10-foot greenway will be constructed on the west side of Stoneridge Parkway. Plans also include a new bus stop along Stoneridge Parkway and 549 parking spaces for Sam's Club.

The Sam's Club is expected to bring 150 to 175 full-time and part-time positions. In May, representatives for Wal-Mart said Sam's Club is expected to open in early 2015.
